Communication
Right up there in the popularity stakes of the Internet is direct communication. Basic forms have existed on the Internet for quite some time now (e.g. Emailing) as it wasn’t that difficult to use Dial up for fundamental communication methods. The introduction of Broadband has obviously come along in leaps and bounds and facilitated the use of online chatting to the extent where you can host telephone and face to face (video) conversations through your Broadband connection. A common and rapidly growing technique of Internet telephony is ‘VoIP’ (Voice over Internet Protocol). This service can usually be bundled together with your Broadband Plan and its cost effectiveness makes it very inviting. Other forms of communication over the Internet that offer ‘Real Time’ online chat are: Discussion Boards (FaceBook and MySpace) and Chat Rooms (e.g. Forums, I.R.C.), Instant Messenger Software (e.g. MSN Messenger, ICQ, Trillian), Voice Chat Programs (Paltalk, Ventrilo), and Video Conferencing software.
