Internet Protocol

Each computer connected to the Internet has its own unique numerical identification called an IP address (Internet Protocol), which is used to route the transfer of information. The format for these numbers range between 'zero' and '255' and use a 32 bit numeric address system separated by periods. E.g. An IP address for Google is 64.233.187.99. If you were to connect to this Domain by typing http://www.google.com into your Web Browser, your computer would then initiate a sequence of packets using Internet Protocol in order to make contact with Google. The packets are then sent from your unique IP address so Google knows who to respond to.
