Broadband Types & Speed Tiers

The main point of difference (apart from price!) between the unlimited broadband plans are speed, and these depend on your existing broadband connections.

Choosing an NBN plan depends on which NBN connection your house has. There are four different NBN speed tiers (theoretical downloads / uploads):
Basic: 12Mbps / 1Mbps
Standard: 25Mbps / 5Mbps
Standard Plus: 50Mbps / 20Mbps
Premium: 100Mbps / 40Mbps

ADSL2+ and Naked DSL connections can reach maximum speeds of 24Mbps. However, note that this does not mean that you are guaranteed this speed, especially during peak times.

In areas with 2300MHz coverage, wireless connections can reach theoretical speeds of 12Mbps/1Mbps. Wireless connections outside of that coverage have maximum speeds of 5Mbps/1Mbps.

As technology is continuously getting more advanced and robust in their features, so too is the reliant on being connected to the internet. More people are becoming reliant on the internet, whether it is for entertainment purposes such as streaming TV Shows and Movies or playing video games, to more business-related purposes such as working from home or needing to bulk-transfer files to and from servers. With smart homes on the rise as well, it is important to begin thinking about how much internet data you will need per month to ensure that everything can function without slowing down.
